DRDO scouts Donakonda for a potential missile manufacturing unit
Kurichedu Desk · 20 Jul 2025
According to a report in Andhra Jyothy, DRDO officials surveyed roughly 100 acres of government land near Donakonda in Prakasam district as a candidate site for a missile manufacturing unit.
Donakonda offers a rare combination defence agencies look for: large contiguous parcels, low population density, an existing rail link, and historically airfield-grade flat terrain. The same attributes that made the British-era airstrip viable here continue to make the region a logical candidate for strategic manufacturing.
This is still a scouting stage, not an announcement. Formal land allotment, environmental clearance, and DRDO-MoD sign-off would have to follow. Read alongside the live APIIC 380-acre industrial park RFP, it suggests Donakonda is being looked at by more than one arm of the state and central government in the same window.
For Kurichedu landowners and small businesses, this is signal — not a transaction trigger. Plan around the possibility, but wait for formal notification before pricing it in.
